How do I farm gold in TBC WoW?[]
High Risk Farmer - This play style will focus on maximizing your overall item level to increase your overall chances of high tier loot dropping upon kills in PvE out in the open world. Anytime a player has ‘High Risk’ enabled, they will have a buff icon in the upper righthand corner of their screen indicating their loot tier level (Example : Heroic Dungeon, Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, etc.); the higher your item level, the better the loot buff your character will withhold. Keep in mind you cannot fly in the open world if this mode is enabled.
No Risk Farmer - This play style allows the player to have a laid back experience without the fear of losing gold or items. Different from High Risk, in No Risk you may use your flying mounts anywhere in the Outlands. This creates an opportunity for the player to indulge into their farming desires very fluently like it was in the original game. Whether you’re farming ore, herbs, or items from mobs, you can expect to do it at an enjoyable pace while ‘No Risk’ is enabled
Determining your professions
- Intro - If one of your endgame goals is to maximize your overall gold profit, then deciding on two key professions that interest you is a crucial part of the journey.
- Deciding - The Burning Crusade expansion has quite the variety in regards to professions. Below you can see a compiled list of all the choices, along with source links that will provide helpful information on the leveling process.
Professions List
Combination - Keep in mind that professions were designed around a system that makes certain ones flow together naturally better than others (Ex : Alchemy/Herbalism); would be a far more superior combination for profit and fluidity instead of choosing (Ex : Alchemy/Skinning). See the short list below for recommendation examples.
- Blacksmithing/Mining
- Skinning/Leatherworking
- Alchemy/Herbalism
Determining your strategy
- Intro - In summation, at the end of the day you are either going to be endlessly killing/looting mass amounts of mobs, flying around node to node collecting for your professions, or a fine blend of both; your choice.
- Tip (High Risk) - If this is your venturing route of interest, bear in mind that you will definitely run into other players at some point; sometimes 1, maybe 4. Whether or not you enjoy PvP, your primary goal here is to increase your total profit margin, in doing so you must find a secluded area for maximum efficiency so you can reduce the chances of running into opposition.
- Tip (No Risk) - If this is the more suiting of the two choices for you, keep in mind that if you have a gathering profession such as Herbalism or Mining, it is a great idea to implement a route for your gathering runs. See the line below for a direct source link to the ‘Gatherer’ addon. This addon will keep track of all the nodes you harvest, allowing icons to be saved on the map indicating where you once were to give brief remembrance.
Raw Methods[]
- Mote Extracting.
Profession Required : Engineering - 305/375
If you are playing on No Risk and you are an Engineer, this is a must. There are different types of gas clouds across four of The Outland zones that you can harvest for materials that are needed across multiple professions.
Once you have this item in your inventory, the nodes will appear on your minimap.

- Crafting Gems.
Profession required : Jewelcrafting - 355/375
This method is not always promising, but if you keep an eye out for cheap gem-making materials on the Auction House, you can then craft real gems from those cheap materials, and repost it to the Auction House for profit. See the list below for a list of the raw gem material names.
Uncommon : Blood Garnet, Flame Spessarite, Deep Peridot, Shadow Draenite, Golden Draenite, Azure Moonstone.
Rare : Noble Topaz, Star of Elune, Talasite, Living Ruby, Dawnstone, Nightseye.
- Primal Mooncloth, Shadowcloth, and Spellcloth.
Profession required : Tailoring - 350/375
Tailoring primarily is used for the crafting of armor and bags, and special types of cloth which can sell for a good profit, but have a cooldown per day.
- Transmutes, Flasks, and Elixirs.
Profession required : Alchemy - 350/375
Transmutes have a limit per day on how many you can make, but the amount of flasks and elixirs you can make is a matter of how many materials you have, so feel free to stock up on those. Herbalism is a great combination with Alchemy if you are looking to maximize profit.
High Risk Farming[]
- Intro - Although you do not need to be in ‘High Risk’ to do this method, it works fairly well if there is a combination of low server activity and patience. Killing specific mobs can have a 20-30% chance per kill to drop x1-2 motes of that specific element; upon reaching x10 motes, you can turn it into a Primal Element (Ex : Primal Fire, Primal Air).
- Context - If you find a quiet location with these mobs in High Risk, not only do you withhold the chance of getting motes, but you also have a chance of high tier loot dropping; depending on your loot tier buff. This can be a grueling process, but it also can pay off with a bit of pacing.
